My Five: Five things worth sharing from the last week (or so), brought to you by a different member of the Browser Media team every Friday.

This week’s My Five is by Tom.

1. Pinterest Cozies up to brands

Sooo, PInterest’s investors want to see a return on their $130 million investment – and clearly the head honchos and Pinterest HQ believe that brand pages are a step in the right direction. Take a look at the below eConsultancy post for a more-detailed rundown of events.

2. Stat of the week – every additional second of website load time, conversion rates reduce by 7%

We’re looking for a CRO expert to join us at Browser Media, and it’s these sort of statistics that highlight why. This stat is ancient now, but I recalled it just as I sat down to write, so it seemed an apt thing to write about.

3. Music Industry Give Google Jip

The BPI, the body who represent the UK’s biggest record labels, claims Google’s music policy  “doesn’t make sense”. They claim Google are not doing enough to tackle piracy, despite the fact it’s launching a new, legal music service. They want Google to alter their algorithm to filter piracy ridden websites.

Love hearing about that algorithm in the mainstream news!

4. Geek and Nerd now terms of endearment

These words were insults in a previous time – now they are what pretentious people describe themselves as, because they think it makes them look intelligent, yet modestly self-depreciating. I’ve seen through that charade since around 2007, and now the BBC has too. #fingeronthepulse

5. Sitting Down is Killing You!

This is also an oldie, but a goodie. Use this infographic to rise against your masters and demand a chaise lounge to work on, so you can look seductive whilst you build those sweet, sweet links, or whatever it is you do for a living.

A certain member of the Browser Media team has perfected the art of being almost entirely horizontal, despite being in a chair. I suspect he read this infographic and changed his/her habits accordingly.
