Posted on by Browser Media

We recently reported the web browser usage share statistics for November 2010 based on research by Net Applications.  While in the statistics groove, we were interested to see that Econsultancy has created a very nice infographic showing search engine market shares across 10 countries around the world. Econsultancy blogged; “We were conducting research into search engine market shares around the world and couldn't find a source that could give us details for…

Ask.com throws in the towel

Posted on by Browser Media

The once prolific Ask.com has announced that it will no longer be operating as a search engine. Ask.com, formerly known as Ask Jeeves, was launched in 1996 and was immensely popular, handling upwards of 2 million search queries a day at it’s peak. However, the reign of Ask.com was short lived as Google began to grow. As Google took hold of the search market, Ask.com’s market share plummeted, as did…

Google’s contribution to the UK election

Posted on by Browser Media

There has been a lot of talk over the past weeks / months how the UK election 2010 has been the first ‘internet’ election (or even the first mumsnet election). In our humble opinion, it has been slightly over stated and we would suggest that the TV debates (‘old school media’) were far more influential overall, although the surprising failure of the Liberal Democrat party does call this into question….

Earlier this week it was announced that Google has finally made a deal with Twitter, to enable them to show Twitter updates in it’s search results pages. Has Bing’s Market Share Peaked?

Posted on by Browser Media

According to the lastest report released by comScore this week, it would appear that Bing’s growth is gradually slowing down, whilst Google’s is on its way up again. Does this mean that Microsoft’s share in the market has peaked or can it continue to grow and really pose a threat to Google? comScore’s September report shows that Google’s share in the search engine market is now rapidly approaching the 65…

Earlier this week Google launched it’s new search feature in it’s latest attempt at becoming more real-time, and providing it’s users with information about the hottest current events and topics. Twitter has become extremely successful over the years, allowing users to microblog or ‘Tweet’ within seconds about current topics, people and events, which is causing others to turn to Twitter to find the most real time information about these subjects….

Earlier this week ComScore released it’s monthly qSearch analysis report, conducted on the U.S Search Market throughout August and it shows some interesting results. The report shows that last month there were 13.9 billion core searches performed in the U.S alone, with Google’s share of that figure being 64.9%, Yahoo!’s 19.3% and Microsoft’s 9.3%.
